GuildWorks Design and Drafting Assistant
We have two positions currently available for Design/Drafting Assistant. One position is in Portland Oregon, and the second position is in Sebastopol, Ca.
GuildWorks is fast-growing, accomplished, and ambitious fabric architecture company in Portland. We design, build, and install Architecture of the Air: tension-integral, sacred-geometrical structures with custom fabric and support systems. Design from Nature’s Principles guides our production of functional, beautiful, and inspiring environments with minimal materials for maximum impact. We’re looking for a design and drafting assistant to help us manage our increasing construction document and 3D modeling demands.
Our office environment is collaborative and positive, and we are looking for the right match of skills and personality to fit here. We work closely together, so ability to learn quickly, take direction, solve problems, and respond well to changes and constructive criticism are important.
The main responsibility of a design assistant is to take direction, sometimes broad, sometimes specific, from the design leads, and to produce professional results in the form of high-detail 3D models and 2D drawings and construction documents for architectural and engineering design, analysis and build documents ( AutoCAD , Rhino, Sketchup, SolidWorks). Over the duration of employment this role will include fabric panel production, installation, and project management to gain a more complete understanding of our overall process, to inform decisions and approach.
Summer is our busiest season, and as a design-build company, the work is project-based and often event-oriented, and so has hard deadlines- we can’t delay a festival weekend, for instance. This will lead to extended hours requirements for the season, and there is limited opportunity for vacation time during summer. Winter tends to be our slower season, with more flexibility in terms of personal/ travel/ away time.
We are looking for a hard-working, creative, detail-oriented problem solver , if you have a degree (or a degree-in-process) in architecture or related design field this is a bonus, we also are accepting of equivalent related experience. Experience in an architecture or design office is a plus. Strong organizational, time-management, and verbal and written communication skills are a must. It is very necessary that you have a great grasp on visualizing in 3D.
