Approach

Tension-integral systems are the most material-efficient and stable way to build, at any scale. These principles can be found anywhere in nature.

Testaments to Tension

Renewal

While fabric as a building material is ancient, starting with bedouin tents and teepees, our Tension Structure industry is relatively young and on the cutting edge of building technology. The detailed form-engineering and technological accomplishments find roots in Frei Otto’s work in the 1960s. Rapid advances in technology and materials science now enable us to build at extraordinary scale structures never before imagined.

Natural mimicry

GuildWorks was founded with a vision for creating shelter with the fewest material resources, guided by nature’s principles and the elegant geometries of tension fabric structures. Like nature’s creations, our designs are resistant to disturbances, attuned to local needs, and created using sustainable materials.

Sustainability

GuildWorks takes the concept of sustainability further, considering people, communities, and the environment during every step. In the design phase, we listen closely to your unique needs and create with the site’s use, surroundings, and weather conditions in mind. During production, we work to source materials responsibly and partner with local businesses. When installing, our low-impact methods keep businesses and residents happy by reducing dust, noise pollution, and road closures. Finally, we will take care of your installation throughout its long life, maximizing the lifespan of the materials before eventual recycling and responsible disposal.

Adaptability

The organic shapes of our installations combined with thoughtfully engineered fabrics allow us to have nuanced control of environmental functionality including sunlight passthrough, UV protection, heat capture, ventilation, and water collection. Our temporary and permanent structures offer beautiful and efficient solutions to the ever widening challenges posed by climate change and urban heat islands.

Creating with Care

Tension structures provide protection from the elements with minimal impact on the planet.

From the recyclable materials we use to the low carbon impact of shipping and construction, every design takes the health of our ecosystems into consideration.

Not only do tension structures produce less waste during construction, our membrane suppliers offer 100% truly recyclable materials to all of our projects.
