Position Title: Design Team Member Reports To: Director of Design Department: Design Location: HQ + remote
PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION The Design Team Member designs, develops, and details innovative tensile structure installations and environments. GOALS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Design for a wide range of tensile structure installations including permanent and temporary installations that consist of fabrics and other membrane materials, structural supports, custom hardware and cable assemblies.
Able to provide a dynamic approach to design, integrating principles of architecture and structural engineering with a creative perspective towards problem-solving.
Collaborate in concept development with others using a variety of methods, from hand-drawn sketches to computer renderings and other mediums for visualization and communication.
Ensures project goals are achieved according to GuildWorks’ overall vision and strategy.
Communicate with clients to develop internal strategy to achieve visual, experiential, technical and functional goals for each project in balance with constraints of budget, timeline, building codes, physical aspects of the site, etc.
Create highly detailed 3D models in Rhino used for design, visualization, documentation, fabrication and production.
Learn and use NDN ( our FEA program) models used for engineering and analysis.
Create CD documents, including drawing sets and specifications for design approval and submittal through predesign, schematic design, design development, and construction phases including estimation, project planning, and value engineering.
Contribute to institutional learning and growth through sharing.
Contributes to the execution of individual projects, as well as the maintenance and evolution of standards for creative practice, technical documentation and construction administration at GuildWorks.
Follow and maintain procedures for file creation, management, collaboration, organization and archives.
Work directly with the Design Director to accommodate design changes and feedback throughout all phases of the project.
Work closely with Production and Fabrication to create and improve processes between departments.

Knowledge of architectural, engineering, and fabrication practices
Knowledge of materials and methods of custom fabrication
Must have strong organizational and time-management skills.
Must follow company file management protocols.
Must be active in the company project management process.
Must be a hard-working & detail-oriented problem solver.
Must be able to anticipate and plan project workload and communicate with the Design Director should overtime be required to complete the work.
