We have one position currently open for a part-time Production Assistant in Portland, Oregon. Our work is project based. An ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to maintain an open and flexible schedule. This position will report to and assist the Production Manager.
Due to COVID-19, GuildWorks has strict safety protocols for all employees in place. New Employees are required to go through safety orientation prior to working at the studio and to follow all protocols. Overview: The Production Assistant encompasses a diverse range of work and will help the Production Manager with fabricating large, complex projects that require organization and proactively preparing for next steps in the life cycle of a project. Over the duration of employment, this role will include understanding GuildWorks’ design and installation to gain a more complete understanding of how production fits within our overall process. Minimum Requirements:
Be mechanically and technically apt.
Must have experience working with industrial sewing machines.
Have strong visual and spatial understanding capabilities.
Have manual dexterity and ability to use tools with precision and accuracy.
Perform complex tasks in sequence as well as simple, repetitive tasks.
Must have the desire to continuously learn.
Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
Be organized and a hard-working, detail-oriented, problem solver.
Be comfortable with receiving/executing precise directives in both calm and challenging work scenarios.
Be able to work at floor-level, involving sitting, kneeling, squatting, crouching, and standing.
Be able to lift 45 pounds.
Be available to work longer hours or weekends as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Follow direct supervision from the Production Manager and management.
Read and understand production charts, mapping them onto fabrics.
Cutting textiles to precise specifications.
Using manual and high-powered, sharp cutting tools and equipment.
Operating hot air welding machines.
Assisting in the dyeing/ coloring of fabrics.
Preparing pieces for various stages of production.
Understanding work process flow, able to modify flow based on efficiency needs.
Communicating between departments (design, sewing, welding, installation, inventory).
Work in close proximity with a team; following GuildWorks COVID-19 safety protocols.
Work calmly at a fast pace even under pressure of a deadline.
Other tasks as required by Production Manager
Associates degree (or a degree-in-process) or equivalent related experience.
Experience with organizing projects.
Experience working with the Google platform.
Experience working in both Mac and Windows environments.
Experience working with CAD files and a CNC cutting table.
Related work experience is a factor in our consideration.
A background in architecture, art installation/design, textile industry, etc. is always a plus
